The Merchants House building was complete in 1877, the design completed by John Burnet also included offices for the chamber of commerce in the city. Substantial alterations were made however in 1908, which included two storeys which still exists to this day.

The house is a registered charity which provides funding to voluntary organisations and groups across Glasgow and the West of Scotland, it also makes grants from it’s funds to various educational institutions whom provide bursaries to students and schoolchildren through the George Craig Trust. The house has been the recipient of bequests and donations ever since it was first established.
